The Best of Avebury Open Mic 2014 is an eclectic mix of the most striking acts to have appeared in the Red Lion in Avebury this year. 28 - The Swinging Sixties with End of the Track

7.30pm - Marden House - £7; £5 Friends; £1 Children

The singing group "End of the Track" has its history founded in the Chippenham Male Voice Choir and perform songs from the 1960s era to raise funds for local charities. They formed after a small number of singers within the choir wanted to experiment with different styles of song - having taken part in joint concerts with other male choirs from across England & Wales (and Cornwall which of course is a country in its own right). Those choirs would often perform "alternative" material after the concerts - to entertain their wives & friends, and anyone else who was in earshot.

So, around 2005 the Chippenham singers arranged weekly practise sessions together to learn new songs and to exercise their voices - with the help of a beer or two. The venue for their meetings has varied over time, but from about 2008 it settled on the home of one of its members who lives in isolated splendour at the end of a long & bumpy farm track on the outskirts of Chippenham. That venue has given rise to the name of the group. This promises to be a memorable evening of songs that were popular in the during the "Swinging Sixties".

PLEASE NOTE: This event replaces “…I’ve just this brilliant idea” with David White and friends which we hope to reschedule for our 2015 Festival.
