39th Calne Music & Arts Festival

Carole Browne - President

Another Festival has been and gone and the general opinion has been very favourable. Not everyone got to fill in our survey but from those that were received it is obvious that, apart from the concerts and events on offer, people perceived this Festival week as a time to catch up with old friends, chat over lunch or a glass of wine, and generally enjoy the ambiance of a real community event.

I would once again like to offer our sincere thanks to the our performers, Sponsors for their valuable financial support, to the Friends for their contributions, and to the numerous people outside of the Committee who helped to keep things running smoothly at Marden House and with the Art Exhibition.

Next year will be a big one, our 40th. So please watch this space!

Announcing the launch of Calne War Memorial Project 2014

We are looking for relatives of those who fought in First World War to share their memories and stories with the young people in Calne.

With the centenary of the First World War in 2014 there is a need, and opportunity, for young people in Calne to connect with this part of their fading local heritage. The Calne War Memorial Project aims to bring back to life the names on our treasured War Memorial. With training in Oral History, pupils from The John Bentley School, St Mary’s School and Springfield’s Academy will research names on the memorial and discover who they were in the context of Calne 100 years ago, what happened to them in the Great War and the effect their loss had on Calne during the last 100 years.
