Official
opening of the Ceramic Mosaic and Tree
Planting in Castlefields. - 11.30am.
|
|
The
Festival committee commissioned the Calne
Artists' Group to design and make a feature
to celebrate 30 years of the Festival's
existence. The Project now completed is
a large Ceramic Mosaic, consisting of 16
individual panels, with each panel
reflecting the creative vision of each
contributing artist within the group. It has
been installed in a prominent position in
Castlefields at the back of Marden House,
where it makes a significant contribution to
the improvements that have been made in this
area. The Festival committee would like
to thank CARP (Castlefield, Canal and
River Park Association) and the NWDC for
their collaboration in this project

Découpage
– illustrated talk – Belinda Ballantine
|
|
Belinda
specialises in hand-painted furniture,
gilding, decoupage and china painting, has
written two books and has made numerous TV
programmes. With the aid of slides,
examples and demonstrations, Belinda will
introduce you to the pleasures of Découpage,
which is the 18th and 19th century art of
sticking paper cut-outs to a surface in
a design and varnishing them to give the
impression of inlay, especially exciting
when applied to glass with gilding behind
it! No artistic skills are
necessary so hopefully the afternoon
will inspire you to try decoupage for
yourself!

Wind Ensemble

In
the beautiful acoustic of our parish church,
a dozen of the finest wind players from
Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Somerset come
together under the leadership of their guest
conductor, the internationally acclaimed
clarinettist and chamber musician, David
Campbell, who, among other things, conducts
the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great
Britain as well as the Sound Wood Ensemble. They will present an exciting programme
which includes the famous wind serenades of
Dvorák and Mozart, and Gary Carpenter’s
Pantomime for 13 Winds, which explores the
shadowy and half forgotten world of smoky
music halls.

The
Tony Goldsmith Blues Band
|
|
Playing
jump blues from the 1940s and 1950s when
R&B really meant Rhythm and Blues, this
exciting band will make you want to get up
and jive. They feature the music of such
blues legends as Big Joe Turner, Jimmy
Witherspoon and T Bone Walker. Come and
listen to the soulful vocals of Dave
Illingworth, the outstanding solos of Paul
Hartshorn (guitar), and Ray Colomb (sax) all
held together with the driving piano playing
of Tony Goldsmith (familiar to many through
previous festivals).
