TEST 20/08/09
Welcome
to the 2008 Festival. As always our Committee have
done an excellent job in putting together a varied
and interesting programme. There is the usual
emphasis on local talent and connections, a
distinguishing feature of our Festival, and within
that a wide variety of events. There is music from
classical to jazz and folk, dance and poetry (have
you entered your piece?) and a photographic
display in the Heritage Centre as well as the main
art exhibition in Marden House which is such a
well-loved element in the week.
The
theme this year is 'English Perspectives'
encompassing both art and music. It is the
fiftieth anniversary of Vaughan Williams's death
and his music will be featured in a number of
events.
Unlike
many others, Calne's Festival relies largely on
its own financial resources and could not succeed
without the support of its patrons and sponsors to
whom we give our thanks. Rising costs have
necessitated some increase in ticket prices this
year but the Festival continues to give excellent
value for money. And the ever-popular Codas
continue to be free!
The
Committee under the leadership of Tim Browne has
again done an excellent job in creating this
attractive programme. Our heartfelt thanks are due
to them and all who will be working over its
duration to make the Festival again the success
which we have learned to expect.
Please
study this programme and get along to enjoy the
many delights on offer!
